Roman Yakub is an Amherst, Massachusetts-based composer, whose music has been performed in the USA and Europe for the last 40 years. Educated as a composer at the L’viv State Conservatory (now L’viv National Music Academy, Ukraine), Roman moved to the United States in 1991, received his M.M. in composition at UMass-Amherst, and his Doctor in Music Composition degree from Boston University.

His music has earned multiple national and international awards, including First Prize in the Ithaca College Choral Composition Contest (2006), a MacDowell Colony Fellowship (2000), and ASCAP Awards.

His works have been commissioned by ensembles and festivals including Wiedikon Orchestra (Zurich), Bachanalia and Bridge Festivals (New York), the University of Massachusetts Women’s Choir, and numerous theaters in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia, and Russia.

Roman Yakub has taught at Voronezh Academy of Arts, Boston University, Hampshire College, and Amherst College.
